Preoccupation with philosophy, mindset, and “life hacks” is an insidious form of procrastination designed to distract us from two uncomfortable truths.
The first is that the only way to fix our problems is to take actual steps towards fixing our problems. Just as the way to write a book is to write a book, and the way to start working out is to start working out, the way to stop jerking off is to stop jerking off. Reading and thinking and planning is often worse than useless because it actually prevents action by making us feel as if we have already accomplished something when in reality we’ve just been wasting time.
The second uncomfortable truth is that there will never be a time in the future where our task will be any easier than it is right now. No one ever says, “I’ve had enough jerking off for one life; I’m satisfied.” For the desire for sex is insatiable. Indeed, the more you indulge, the stronger it gets; conversely, the less you indulge, the easier your desires are to manage.
“Ever fed, never satisfied; never fed, ever satisfied.”
